BES 4.1 for Domino available now

The new version of Blackberry Enterprise Server, with support for Sametime, is available for download now. I'm doing just that as we speak, along with the docs, and we'll see how it looks. We have two servers here on 4.0 that have been working pretty darn well. I'm excited to see how the new version looks and performs.

Also, need to see what upgrading requires, since both BES serves use the same SQL database.

  • I am very interested in seeing what the new release brings to the table and how hard the upgrade will be. I wonder how big the IM app and new JRE for MDS is going to be and how do you push that to the users without killing your BES. The new MDS should be something that makes Domino apps or Web services very attractive for the BB.

  • I can tell you that the download was huge - over 400 MB. And that's about all right now. I'm extracting the file now, and will be reading through the documentation tomorrow. Something I'm looking for is the requirement for the IM app. I thought I saw something this morning that required handhelds with 32MB of memory and the 4.1 handheld software. That may limit the usefulness, especially since 4.1 hasn't come out for units like the 7100 and 7230 which we have many of. More to come.
